Jed Wallace insists he was ‘never that close’ to leaving Millwall in the January transfer window despite a trio of bids from Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, speaking to BBC Radio London.
Who would have thought that a consistent, well thought out transfer policy would make such a difference? Funny, that.
After so many disastrous signings, so many forgotten flops, Portuguese promises and whizzkids-turned-wraiths, Nottingham Forest appear to have finally cracked the recruitment puzzle.
The appointment of CEO Dane Murphy, the brains behind Barnsley’s march to the play-offs last season, coincided with Forest’s best streak of signings in recent memory.
Djed Spence, Philip Zinckernagel, James Garner, Keinan Davis and Steve Cook have all proved to be inspired additions. Braian Ojeda has had his moments too, while Sam Surridge opened his account during the 2-1 FA Cup victory over Huddersfield Town on Monday night.
Will Jed Wallace still end up at Nottingham Forest?
And, in many ways, Jed Wallace suits Forest’s re-vamped transfer strategy down to the ground. Boasting a proven track record in England’s second tier, Wallace is enjoying another stellar season for perennial overachievers Millwall, recording six goals and nine assists.
Nottingham Forest made a trio of bids in January. But none of them within touching distance of matching Millwall’s rather ambitious £9 million valuation for a man who will be a free-agent in July (Express).

“(I was) never that close (to leaving),” admits the former Portsmouth and Wolves man.
“My overriding feeling in January was I wanted to get back playing football. And I know when I’m playing at The Den I’m enjoying myself. I think my performances have shown that.
“Whether I’ve got 10 years or one day left on my contract I’ll give my all for the club because the club has done a lot for me in the last five years.”
Wallace, once a £10 million target for Aston Villa, has also been linked with Leeds United of late.
