FC Barcelona have reportedly held talks with Fali Ramadani, the agent of Napoli superstar and rumoured Everton target Kalidou Koulibaly.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the football official has recently visited the Nou Camp to talk to Barcelona officials about his client Miralem Pjanic, conversations quickly turning to Koulibaly’s situation at Napoli, which appears murkier than ever.

As per the report, the Serie A giants are eager to sign their star defender down to a new contract. However, just like Lorenzo Insigne, Napoli can only afford Koulibaly a contract on reduced terms, an offer which could allow the Senegal international to leave Italy with the likes of Everton and now Barcelona eyeing the centre-back.

With the 30-year-old earning a reported £183,000-a-week with Napoli, Koulibaly would cost a pretty penny with his contract set to expire in 2023, and if reports are to be believed, Everton are in the chase to sign the world-class defender.

Il Mattino reported in January that Everton were interested in Koulibaly, with defence an area of the pitch that Frank Lampard is desperate to improve if the Toffees can now even survive in the Premier League beyond this season.

Indeed, Koulibaly was always going to look like an ambitious signing for Everton, yet with Barcelona now in active talks with his agent, the Merseyside club seemingly stand little chance of bringing the African star to Goodison Park this summer.

Barcelona are well-positioned to beat Everton to Koulibaly

With Everton last night losing 5-0 in the Premier League and relegation looking like a real possibility for the Toffees, Barcelona are in an incredible position to sign Koulibaly virtually unchallenged unless another club comes in for the 30-year-old.

Whilst Lampard could lead Everton to safety, it seems like regardless of what happens this season will do little to affect Barcelona’s chase for Koulibaly, with the La Liga side likely to win the race for the Serie A titan this summer.
