Aston Villa’s hopes of signing Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez could be dented with Inter Milan now hoping to secure him this summer.
Once Villa somehow managed to pull off the signing of Philippe Coutinho in January, it always felt like this rumour was just a matter of time.
Steven Gerrard’s pulling power is huge anyway, but being able to convince his old Liverpool teammate Coutinho to join felt like a big moment.
Coutinho’s move may open the door for other big stars – and other former Gerrard teammates – to join Villa too.
The next logical rumour was Suarez, who thrived at Liverpool alongside Gerrard and Coutinho.
Reports from Spain suggest that Gerrard personally called Suarez to try and lure him to Villa alongside Coutinho.
No January deal emerged, but Gerrard allegedly remains keen on signing Suarez at the end of the season.
Gerrard has branded Suarez ‘relentless’ and ‘phenomenal’, so it’s no great surprise to hear that a Villa reunion could be on the cards.
Suarez, 35, is out of contract at Atletico Madrid this summer and could be a huge coup for Villa on a free transfer – especially if Ollie Watkins leaves.
The problem for Villa is that other clubs of course want to sign the Uruguayan too.

Marca claim that the phone just keeps ringing for Suarez, with Inter Milan and Ajax making contact to try and sign him.
Sevilla and teams in Brazil are keen too, meaning Suarez will be inundated with offers once his Atletico deal expires.
Seeing Coutinho and Suarez link up in the Premier League again would be quite the sight, and Gerrard is the only man who can make that happen for Villa.
This move may sound bold an a little too ambitious, but with Gerrard at the helm you just can’t rule out Suarez making a stunning Premier League comeback.
