Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur target Enzo Fernandez is ‘the best soccer player’ in Argentina amid interest from a host of Premier League clubs, former Albiceleste international Coco Basile tells Ezzequiel on Youtube.
And that, by the way, includes a certain Julian Alvarez.
But, according to Basile, Alvarez is not the finest footballer in Argentina. He’s not even the finest footballer in the River Plate dressing room.
That honour, he says, goes instead to 21-year-old Enzo Fernandez. A dynamic, ball-carrying midfielder on the radar of Everton, West Ham, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, according to El Crack Deportivo.
“Enzo Fernandez is the best Argentine soccer player,” says a bullish Basile, a two-time Copa America winner who also worked as a technical director for the national team.
Will Enzo Fernandez join Julian Alvarez in England?
But what is it that makes Fernandez so special?

Well, the 2021 Primera Division champion already appears to be something akin to the ‘complete midfielder’.
Someone who can start attacks and stop them. Someone capable of snatching back possession with a perfectly-timed tackle before gliding across the turf and creating goalscoring opportunities at the other end of the pitch.
Fernandez, with his blend of fire and finesse, is an all-around midfield force in the Mateo Kovacic mould.
“(Fernandez) may be the most sought-after player in the next transfer markets,” adds River director Enzo Francescoli, who also suggests that Alvarez could have his loan from Man City extended beyond the summer.
“It is a reality because of the evolution that Enzo has had, which is excellent. He grew a lot and has earned a place in the first-team. That is also a motivation for the other kids at the club.”
