Ben Foster has claimed that Aaron Ramsdale’s ability to ‘enjoy’ himself whilst playing for Arsenal and without caring about the pressure is something ‘unheard of’, as he told Premier League Productions.
The Watford shot-stopper related back to his days at Manchester United and how every time he would go onto the field he would think ‘just don’t make a mistake’.
Every since Ramsdale, 23, has donned Arsenal’s number one goalkeeping gloves, he has showcased a relaxed style and played the game like he is in the park with his mates.
That has all filtered through to his teammates and the supporters, which has boded well for Arsenal’s well-drilled and strong defensive backline.
Ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League showdown with Watford, Foster spoke highly about his counterpart.
“My problem at Man United, I think I was 24 probably, it was just the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Foster.
“I remember every time I went out onto the pitch I was thinking ‘don’t make a mistake, just please don’t make a mistake’ because within hours it would be all over the internet. It’s horrible.
“When I got into my 30s, that’s when I could really start enjoying myself because you learn to stop caring so much.
“But I think he (Ramsdale) has got that now, which is unheard of almost, honestly.”

There was a lot of pressure on Ramsdale’s shoulders when he first joined Arsenal, with many questioning why the club paid top dollar for a player that had suffered back-to-back relegations.
So, not only was Ramsdale having to deal with the pressure of playing for the Gunners, but also that pressure of people questioning his qualities.
But he has taken all of that in his stride and proven that he has a very strong mindset, regardless of what is being thrown at him.
All of that will be tested during these final few months of the season, as Mikel Arteta’s side chase a Champions League finish.
