Tim Sherwood has criticised Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on Sky Sports News (5:28m, March 5, 2022) for conceding the goal against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Newcastle got the better of Brighton 2-1 at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Eddie Howe’s side scored both of their goals in the opening 14 minutes of the match.

Brighton halved the deficit through Lewis Dunk in the second half.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager Sherwood was disappointed by the manner in which Dubravka conceded the goal.

Sherwood said: “They got a goal back, Lewis Dunk. It was a poor Dubravka error, comes out to take the cross. Lewis Dunk just powers it in front of him from a Gross corner.”

Martin Dubravka needs to do better for Newcastle

In our view, Dubravka should have done better for the goal against Brighton, and his mistake could have easily cost Newcastle the win.

After all, the Seagulls stepped up their game after they scored and piled the pressure on the Newcastle defence.

Now, of course, we cannot overlook the fact that the Slovakia international goalkeeper made a number of brilliant saves.

However, we think that Dubravka should have done better for the mistake that he made.

Sadly for goalkeepers, unlike outfield players, one mistake could and often proves costly for their team.
