According to L’Equipe, Newcastle will have to pay €100m (£83m) if they want to sign Moussa Diaby, who is also said to be a target for Aston Villa.
What’s the story?
Well, the French news outlet believe Bayer Leverkusen want a new club-record fee for the Frenchman, as Newcastle and Aston Villa circle.
Newcastle’s interest is mentioned by L’Equipe, whereas it was Foot Mercato who claimed that the Villans are admirers of Diaby.
Bayer Leverkusen sold Kai Havertz to Chelsea for £71m in 2020, which is their current club-record sale.
Diaby has a contract with the Bundesliga side until June 2025, although the German outfit have slapped the huge price tag on their No.19 in fear of him leaving.
You can see why Eddie Howe and Steven Gerrard want the 22-year-old.
In 30 games this season, Diaby has scored 15 goals, while also providing nine assists in what has been an excellent campaign so far.
Moussa Diaby would shine for Newcastle or Aston Villa

Of course, it’s a hefty price tag, but if either Premier League side can find a way to negotiate a lower fee, they must pounce on Diaby.
In our view, he has the potential to become the next Sadio Mané – his directness, speed and finishing ability is phenomenal.
Diaby is certainly no flash in the pan.

Last season, the Bayer Leverkusen star scored ten goals and provided 15 assists in all competitions, and he’s on course to record more goal involvements this season.
Interestingly, Diaby has also been compared to Arjen Robben, due to his tendency to cut inside on his stronger left foot from the right flank (Bundesliga).
Keep an eye on this saga, as Newcastle and Aston Villa must decide if they want to launch a huge bid for this rising sensation.
