According to Calciomercato, Sven Botman has rejected an offer from Newcastle in favour of a move to AC Milan.

What’s the story?

Well, this will come as a shock to those at Newcastle, including Amanda Staveley.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, the 48-year-old revealed that Botman was keen to join Newcastle in January, and remains interested in doing so.

Staveley said: “Some desperately wanted to come to us, like Sven (Botman), who still does very much and has talked very openly about that.”

Now, however, Calciomercato are saying the opposite.

The Italian news outlet believe Botman has a fantastic offer from Newcastle on the table, although he has chosen AC Milan.

Sport Media Set explain how the 22-year-old has agreed a five-year contract with the Serie A side, which is said to be worth €3.5m-a-season (£2.9m).

Even if AC Milan fumble the deal, Newcastle still have Tottenham to fend off.

According to the Daily Star, Tottenham are desperate to sign the Badhoevedorp-born colossus.

Sven Botman has surely shocked Newcastle

It’s not often that a football club’s owner speaks so openly about transfers like Staveley did when discussing Botman.

If the news about Botman from Italy is true, then we can see why.

Staveley made a rod for her own back by revealing that the Dutchman still wants to join Newcastle, as it raises hope and expectation on Tyneside.

Now, if the Magpies do end up missing out on Botman, questions will be asked as to why he was no longer interested in joining Newcastle.

There’s nothing wrong with losing out to a massive club like AC Milan, although Newcastle fans will surely be shocked after Staveley’s comments.
