Eddie Howe has told Friday’s press conference that Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin could be involved against Brighton on Saturday. Howe says the Toon will make a late decision on him, after Friday’s training session.

Saint-Maximin, 24, has been missing from Newcastle’s last two Premier League matches due to injury. The Toon had been hoping that he will have returned earlier, but he could now help his side against Brighton.

The Frenchman has been pivotal to Newcastle over the last few matches, scoring goals against Manchester United and Watford. His performance against Everton, a 3-1 win, was arguably one of his best this season.

While Newcastle have remained unbeaten without Saint-Maximin – a draw against West Ham and then a 2-0 win over Brentford – having the fleet-footed winger would be a boost ahead of hosting Brighton on Saturday.

“Maxi still hasn’t trained with the group yet and we will make a late assessment based on how he looks and how his injury status is after training. Aside from that, we’re as we were with fitness pre-Brentford.”

Howe on Saint-Maximin: Big boost, Newcastle able to beat Brighton

The Toon are more than capable maintaining their unbeaten run against Brighton, which has now stretched to a very impressive seven matches. The Toon take on Brighton at home – a game which they are capable of winning.

Brighton have lost three straight Premier League matches without scoring a goal, to Manchester United, Burnley and Aston Villa. While they sit in an impressive tenth place, they might begin to look over their shoulder.

Certainly, Newcastle are in much better form than Saturday’s opponents and adding Saint-Maximin into the equation is a huge boost to potentially securing three points on Tyneside.
