Jesse Marsch has told his first-ever Leeds United press conference – as per the club’s YouTube channel – that Joe Gelhardt, Crysencio Summerville and Charlie Cresswell have caught the eye in his first few training sessions.

Marsch hosted his first press conference at Thorp Arch since taking over from Marcelo Bielsa on Monday. He has only been in the role for a few days, ahead of his first game in charge – a trip to Leicester at the King Power.

Gelhardt has been heavily involved with the first team this season, playing 12 times at senior level and having a hand in four goals. Both Cresswell and Summerville have also played for the first team in the Premier League.

Marsch was asked if any Under-23 players have stood out in training and he said that Gelhardt, Cresswell and Summerville are the ones to have made an impression – if they are to be considered as Under-23 players.

“If you count Joffy, he’s been good. Crysencio has been good, Cresswell comes in every day, works very hard. I knew Joffy from the 23’s, first-team games. I need to get to know these players before I can help them grow.”

Marsch first press conference: Leeds manager ticks all the boxes

His comments on the young Leeds trio is exciting. But Leeds fans, who watched the press conference – or simply heard some of the quotes – will be incredibly excited by Marsch’s first comments. He speaks incredibly well.

He is confident that Leeds have what it takes to get out of the mire. Marsch speaks about the morale remaining high behind the scenes. The American gaffer is already impressing – but of course, a win against Leicester helps.
