Pat Nevin waxed lyrical about Anthony Gordon on BBC Radio 5 Live after a stellar showing from the young Everton forward in their 2-0 FA Cup win over non-league Boreham Wood.
Frank Lampard booked the Blues’ place in the quarter-final with a narrow fifth-round win on Thursday night. Everton dominated the National League side on paper with 23 shots to the visitors’ sole attempt, per WhoScored. But Boreham Wood forced Everton to dig deep.
Two second-half goals from Salomon Rondon proved the difference in the end with the 32-year-old striking just before the hour. The Venezuelan would complete his brace and settle the tie six-minutes from time when his header from Andros Townsend’s corner hit the net.

Nevin admired how Gordon had offered Everton’s most creative spark during the opening period at Goodison Park against Boreham Wood. He looked set to be the man to prise the Hertfordshire outfit apart during the first 45-minutes as the Toffees sought a breakthrough.
“You are looking for a spark for Everton now and it looks like Anthony Gordon will be the most likely to create something,” Nevin said (03/03, 20:53). “He just looks a class above.”
Nevin feels Everton ace Gordon is ‘one of the brightest’ Premier League gems
Former Everton forward Nevin continued to wax lyrical about Gordon during the FA Cup tie with Boreham Wood. He would go on to declare his belief that the England Under-21 star is firmly among the most promising emerging talents across the Premier League at present.
“Gordon’s movement is excellent,” Nevin added (03/03, 21:41). “He is one of the brightest talents in the Premier League at the moment.”

Rafa Benitez had established Gordon as an essential first-team player at Everton earlier this term during his brief Goodison tenure. It was also under the Spaniard that the 21-year-old scored his first top-flight strike with a brace against Brighton & Hove Albion this January.
Gordon fired home again following Lampard’s arrival to replace Benitez and also assisted at home to Leeds United last month. He now has three goals and three assists after 35 career outings in the top-flight, starting 18. Of the Blues product’s starts, 13 have come this term.
