Middlesbrough were outstanding against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night, with West Ham United target Dael Fry shining in a 1-0 win over the Premier League side.

Boro were easily the better side on the night, growing into the game as they posed Tottenham a major threat throughout.

Neither side managed to score in 90 minutes, but Boro struck in extra time. Josh Coburn’s powerful finish gave Hugo Lloris absolutely no chance.

Tottenham had no response after going behind and became Boro’s latest FA Cup victims. Manchester United were also dumped out by the Championship side last month.

A number of Middlesbrough players were outstanding against Tottenham, and defender Dael Fry was one of them.

Fry recorded four aerial duels and five clearances as he helped nullify Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in the Tottenham attack.

Fry’s performance was so good that pundit Danny Murphy, speaking on BBC Sport (10:20pm) branded him ‘immaculate’ having completed yet another clearance.

“It was Fry again with header. He’s been immaculate at the back,” said Murphy.

A host of other clubs will have been watching Fry in the hope of prising him away from Middlesbrough at the end of the season.

One of them may have been West Ham United, who are believed to be interested in signing Fry.

90Min reported last week that Fry is on West Ham’s wish list as they chase a new centre back signing this summer.

The likes of Rob Dickie and Jacob Greaves are on the list too, with West Ham seemingly desperate to add another defender to David Moyes’ squad.

Fry has now shown that he can shackle Kane and Son, which has to be added to West Ham’s evaluation of the defender.

Middlesbrough won’t want to lose Fry, especially as he’s a homegrown talent, but performances like this will do nothing but attract more interest.
