Arsenal will have loved Tottenham Hotspur’s FA Cup exit, with Isaiah Jones’ superb display simply the cherry on top of the cake for the Gunners.
Arsenal have been tracking Jones of late according to the Northern Echo as they target a new right back.
Jones is seen by Arsenal as a possible alternative to Djed Spence, whose loan move to Nottingham Forest has ironically opened up the chance for Jones to shine at Boro.
Jones was charged with the task of taking on Tottenham on Tuesday night – and he certainly lived up to that challenge.
Facing off against Ryan Sessegnon and Son Heung-min, Jones didn’t look out of place for a second in another superb display.
Boro were 1-0 winners on the night thanks to Josh Coburn’s extra time goal, dumping Tottenham out of the FA Cup.
Arsenal will have surely had one eye on Jones, with his performance surely adding to the belief that he can be an attacking right back option for the Gunners.
A former non-league talent with Tooting and Mitcham United, 22-year-old Jones now looks destined for the Premier League.
Former England and Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate has been speaking about Jones, heaping praise on the Boro star.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Woodgate praised Jones for his aggression down the right flank as well as his ability to put real quality into the box.
Woodgate added that Jones has ‘pace in abundance’, hailing his attacking input whilst playing more as a winger than a wing back under Chris Wilder.
“Isaiah Jones has done really well this season, he is playing as right wing-back but is a winger. He is quick with the ball, aggressive, his delivery is good,” said Woodgate.
“They got him from Tooting & Mitcham and if you see how good he is, running with the ball, he has pace in abundance and his end product is good. He gets assists and scores, but it is full credit to the Middlesbrough academy system and recruitment,” he added.
Arsenal do want a more attacking option to compete with Takehiro Tomiyasu, but it seems that Jones is more suited to wing back than full back right now.
Arsenal may need to coach Jones up if they want him in a back four, but it’s hard to ignore his attacking gifts.
