The Chronicle claim that Jason Denayer is a target for Newcastle United this summer, and the defender is now said to be keen on a move to The Toon. He is out of contract at current side Lyon in the summer, expiring in June.
Denayer, 26, has starred for Lyon since joining the French side from Manchester City in the summer of 2018 – breaking his way into the Belgium national side since. He has clocked up 136 games for Lyon, but is set to go.
That is because the ex-Sunderland star is out of contract in the summer. Newcastle are interested and want to raid Lyon for a second time, after signing Bruno Guimaraes. Denayer’s stance has now been reported.
Indeed, it is claimed that Denayer enjoyed his time while in the north east – albeit at Sunderland. He is keen on a return to the area, but also to the Premier League and Newcastle would be seemingly ideal for the defender.
Denayer eyes Newcastle move: On a free, he would be a super signing
Newcastle brought in Dan Burn in the summer, but they ultimately failed in pursuits to sign Lille’s Sven Botman – or Sevilla’s Diego Carlos. Spending is expected to continue in the summer – and a centre-back is likely.
But while the list is expected to include four or five big names, Financial Fairplay must be considered and if Newcastle can improve their squad with the odd Bosman move – they should do it. Denayer is a perfect example.
