Leeds United have confirmed the appointment of Jesse Marsch as their new manager – and it looks like Cameron Toshack is following him to Elland Road.

The Whites made the very difficult decision to part ways with Marcelo Bielsa on Sunday after three-and-half years in charge.

Leeds already had their preferred candidate in mind with Marsch targeted from a very early stage.

The American has now been confirmed as Leeds’ new manager, with his work at Red Bull Salzburg impressing the Elland Raod hierarchy.

It may not have gone well for Marsch at RB Leipzig, but he now has the task of keeping Leeds in the Premier League.

Some have wondered who will join Marsch at Leeds. His Leipzig assistant Achim Beierlorzer still has a key role with the Bundesliga club, whilst Salzburg assistant Rene Aufhauser is now managing FC Liefering.

Marsch’s assistant looks set to come from much closer to home, with the Yorkshire Evening Post claiming that Cameron Toshack is heading to Leeds.

With that in mind, here are five facts about Toshack as Leeds prepare to bring him to West Yorkshire.

1. Toshack, 51, has a very familiar name. His father John was the former Real Madrid and Wales manager, and Cameron followed the coaching path by joining Macedonia in 2011.

2. Toshack’s playing career wasn’t anything to write home about. A striker in his playing days, Toshack was on the books at Swansea City, Bristol City, Cardiff City and Weymouth but retired at 23.

3. In 2013, Toshack joined up with Swansea City as their academy manager. Under his stewardship across roles with the Under-18’s and Under-23’s, Toshack helped develop the likes of Oil McBurnie, Joe Rodon, Daniel James and Connor Roberts.

4. Toshack made a bold move to Cyprus in 2019, taking on his first managerial role by taking charge of Pafos. Toshack lost just six games in 17, winning seven and drawing four.

5. Since then leaving Pafos in 2020, Toshack has been a Premier League consultant, seemingly waiting for another big coaching role – and the chance to work at Leeds was seemingly perfect.
