Alexandre Lacazette scored a winner deep into injury time at The Emirates on Thursday night as Arsenal came from behind to beat top-four rivals Wolves 2-1. Samuel Umtiti reacted on Instagram, teasing his ex-teammate.
Coming into the match, Arsenal’s form had been good but they faced a side in Wolves that have firmly planted themselves in the top-four race of late. Gabriel’s horrific back pass gave Wolves the lead – Hwang Hee-chan scoring.
The South Korean rounded Aaron Ramsdale and scored from a tight angle – and it took until 82 minutes for the Gunners to equalise. A delightful turn from Nicolas Pepe saw him plant a left-footed effort past Jose Sa.
Then, deep into injury time, soon-to-be free agent Lacazette struck. Pepe turning provider, the France international some how managed to bundle in an effort despite Sa getting a touch. Lacazette posted on Instagram.
Umtiti teases Lacazette: Arsenal star proving crucial in big moments
Thursday night’s rearranged clash against Wolves was a big one. With Tottenham losing, the race for the top four is on a knife edge and Arsenal probably came up against one of the most in-form sides in the race.
Wolves have been superb. Bruno Lage has his side defensively sound, and having welcomed back Raul Jimenez – but also adding to the side in Sa – they have a really good mix of defensive maturity, but attacking bite.
A huge win for Arsenal, and a huge moment for Lacazette who is becoming more and more of a crucial part of this Gunners side – despite his contract. Umtiti teased his old Lyon mate, saying his celebration needed work.
