Ian Wright claimed that Alexandre Lacazette ‘wasn’t’ sharp’ enough during Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Wolves on Wednesday night, as he told Premier League Productions (24/02/22 at 9:50 pm).

Even though Lacazette’s shot resulted in Arsenal scoring a stoppage-time winner, Wright felt that, even then, his shot was ‘missing’ the goal before going in off Jose Sá’s arm.

Over the course of the game, Mikel Arteta will feel that his side deserved all three points because, especially in the second half, they were the only ones on the front foot.

But a double change from Arteta – the introduction of Nicolas Pepe and Eddie Nketiah – changed the tide of the game for the Gunners.

This is what Wright had to say about Lacazette and he explained how he wants to see more from the club captain.

“I thought Lacazette, in front of goal tonight, it wasn’t really happening for him,” said Wright. “I thought he wasn’t sharp.

“Even with the strike to win the game, I think that was missing before it hit the goalkeeper’s arm. But maybe that’s the luck he deserved, in the end, because he has been working hard for the team.

“I would like to see more goals from someone like Lacazette. I think sometimes, he is coming way too deep.

“I know that he is in the team to link. But we need a focal point because we have players that can run off him, so I would like him to stay up there a little bit more and give us someone to hit.”

Lacazette is out-of-contract at the Emirates in the summer and it doesn’t seem as though he will be signing on the dotted line.

Even though he is a popular member of the dressing room and currently wearing the armband, it seems as though Arteta may need to look for more than one striker when the transfer window re-opens.

In truth, from a pure goalscoring perspective, Lacazette isn’t what the Gunners need and he has struggled from that aspect.

But, one thing that can’t be argued is the all-round package he has in his locker, the work rate up top and how he makes everyone else around him better.
