Leeds United have now reportedly added Paulo Fonseca to their growing list of managerial candidates to potentially replace Marcelo Bielsa in the summer.
According to Sportitalia journalist Gianluigi Longari, the 48-year-old coach is now being evaluated by Leeds as an option to take over from the Argentine, with Leeds last night suffering an embarrassing 6-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.
Bielsa’s future has been at the centre of many conversations for Leeds supporters in recent weeks, with this season feeling like the one where the former Olympique Marseille boss will call time on his spell at Elland Road.
Leeds have endured a rough season after a brilliant homecoming campaign last year, with the Whites just three points off the relegation zone and conceding the most goals out of any club in the Premier League this term.
Indeed, names such as Jesse Marsch have been linked with Leeds in recent weeks, and now, Fonseca appears to be the latest coach who the Yorkshire club are considering as they prepare for life after Bielsa, which could be as soon as this summer.
This isn’t the first time Fonseca has been linked with a Premier League move. In fact, the coach was rumoured to take over at Tottenham according to BBC Sport, Newcastle United as per the Chronicle and Aston Villa as reported by the Daily Mail, all of which happened in 2021.
Fonseca would be an uninspiring appointment for Leeds

Fonseca’s CV at first glance is fairly an impressive one. A three-time title winner with Shakhtar Donetsk and cup winner with the likes of FC Porto and Braga, the Portuguese coach could be a sensible selection to replace Bielsa at Leeds.
However, appointing the former Roma boss would be an uninspiring move for the Yorkshire club, with Fonseca’s style of football one that will look like a regression of what Bielsa has managed to do with Leeds over the past four seasons.
