Premier League outfit Newcastle United can sign Jerry St Juste for just £10 million in the summer transfer window with Mainz listening to offers for the Bundesliga stopper, as reported by BILD.
Whisper it but it seems these new owners know what they’re doing.
There are no Robinhos. No Jose Mourinhos. No overpriced prima-donnas who see Newcastle as a cash cow ripe for milking. Just intelligent, considered, long-term planning from a club with more money than God but the sense to spend it well.
The appointment of Eddie Howe, and the impending arrival of Dan Ashworth, is proof that Newcastle understand the importance of hiring the ‘right’ man, rather than simply the most high-profile option.
And in Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Matt Targett, Newcastle signed three proven Premier League operators – three players capable of making an immediate impact in the heat of a relegation battle – for just over £20 million.
Yes, Bruno Guimaraes didn’t come cheap. But the most expensive signing of the Amanda Staveley era looks like money well spent too. £33 million on a 24-year-old Brazil international who perfectly suits Howe’s possession-based approach.
Who will be Newcastle’s big summer signing?
You could say the same about St Juste.
Newcastle’s defence is hardly brimming with pace – Burn, Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar are all on the slow side. But if Howe wants to implement are more aggressive approach, complete with a higher defensive line, then St Juste could come in very handy indeed.

The 25-year-old former Feyenoord man was clocked as the fastest player in the Bundesliga last season. He’s quicker than Erling Haaland, Kingsley Coman and even Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies; Football’s very own Flash.
St Juste’s contract expires in the summer of 2023. With that in mind, Mainz will listen to offers in the region of £10 million. That was less than the fee Newcastle were told to pay when they entered talks with St Juste in January (Sky).
When you consider that the bidding for Sven Botman, Diego Carlos, Benoit Badiashile and co is expected to start at £40 million, St Juste could provide yet more proof that breaking the bank is not the only route to success.
