According to Eduardo Inda, Arsenal and Liverpool have sent contract offers to Marco Asensio as he looks set to leave Real Madrid on a free transfer.
What’s the story?
Well, the £117,000-a-week man’s contract expires in June 2023, and Real Madrid look likely to lose him to either Arsenal or Liverpool.
Inda told Super Deporte that the Premier League duo are offering Asensio 50% more than what Real Madrid are proposing, in terms of salary.
Real Madrid are currently unwilling to match the money on offer from the Gunners and the Reds, adding an interesting dimension to the contract negotiations.
Furthermore, Asensio needn’t wait until June 2023 to accept offers from elsewhere.
From January 2023, the Spain international will be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with those interested in signing him.
So far this season, Asensio has scored nine goals in 28 appearances, while also providing one assist.
Arsenal could lose out to Liverpool

In our view, Arsenal will have to work very hard to convince Asensio to ignore Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp.
The German often charms his targets, who speak about being convinced to join the Reds after a chat with Klopp.
According to the Mirror, the former Borussia Dortmund boss is said to be a huge fan of Asensio, and admires the 26-year-old’s talents.

Therefore, Arsenal and Mikel Arteta will have to come up with a pretty convincing proposal if they’re to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.
Aside from Klopp’s charm, the Reds are also able to offer Asensio a better chance of securing silverware, so there are many reasons why he’d choose Liverpool over the Gunners.
Keep an eye on this saga, as contract negotiations between Real Madrid and Asensio are set to continue.
