The second part of Jeen-Yuhs dropped but fans were blown away to find that DeRay Davis was the comedian behind those famous College Dropout skits.

The Netflix series focuses on Kanye West’s personal and professional life as he becomes the producer and musician he is today.

The three-part documentary is directed by Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah and has given fans a lot of insight into the making Kanye’s iconic music.

Another iconic moment from the series is DeRay Davis’ contribution to the rapper’s Grammy-winning College Dropout album.

As per his bio, he “transformed his rough upbringing, streetwise mentality and status as a working actor” into a live performance that “stays fresh and ever changing according to whatever is happening in his daily life”.

He hosted the second season of VH1’s Hip Hop Squares and had a recurring role in the third season of FX’s hit series Snowfall.

He also appeared in All Eyez On Me and Grow House alongside Snoop Dogg and Lil Duval.

Comedian was behind College Dropout jokes

One of the less-known facts, for some fans, is that DeRay is behind those famous Bernie Mac’s impersonations on Kanye’s College Dropout album.

For years, people thought that Bernie Mac was the comedian behind the jokes and many were blown away that they weren’t able to recognise DeRay’s voiceover.

In an interview with Complex Magazine, DeRay said:

“People on Twitter still be like, ‘Bernie Mac was great on Kanye’s album.’ And then someone will at me and say, ‘That’s actually Deray Davis.’ People will be like, ‘Oh, I never knew that!'”

But the reason that his impersonation is so iconic is that it was his first-ever impersonation of the Ocean’s Eleven star. Yes, first-ever in his life and he nailed it perfectly.

DeRay’s famous skits on College Dropout took the album straight to the 2005 Grammy Awards when Kanye won Best Rap Album.

The comedian also toured with Kanye and did the same impersonation on Late Registration.

Many fans didn’t know it was DeRay’s voiceover

It’s safe to say that many fans didn’t know DeRay was the comedian behind those famous skits before they watched Jeen-Yuhs.

“Wow. That’s wasn’t Bernie Mac on College Dropout, it was Deray Davis the whole time. That’s wild,” tweeted one person.
