At 19:45pm tonight, Liverpool welcome Leeds to Anfield for the rearranged Premier League fixture, although there’s a problem for those who cannot attend.

The issue also applies to those hoping to watch Tottenham take on Burnley at 19:30pm.

Sadly, those who are keen to see these games on TV won’t be able to watch, as they are not being broadcast in the United Kingdom, but why?

What’s the story?

Well, UEFA are to blame.

Back in January, The Times revealed that UEFA will allow Premier League games to take place on the same night as Champions League clashes, to help with rescheduling.

Previously, UEFA did not allow that to happen, as it would potentially affect their viewership for Champions League games.

However, UEFA’s generosity does not extend to allowing these games to be broadcast on TV.

Tottenham’s clash with Burnley at Turf Moor, as well as Liverpool’s encounter with Leeds at Anfield, were due to be shown on BT Sport.

However, BT Sport are the official Champions League broadcaster, so they have been forced to drop the two Premier League games to show Europe’s greatest club competition instead.

Liverpool, Leeds, Tottenham and Burnley fans will be devastated

While you can understand the decision from UEFA’s point of view, this simply isn’t fair on supporters of the four Premier League teams.

Even those who spend their hard-earned cash on Sky Sports, Amazon Prime and BT Sport subscriptions will be unable to see their beloved teams play.

In this day and age, there should certainly be more ways for fans to watch their sides play, rather than having to go without.

Supporters have just had to endure over a year of being locked out of going to games, while some remain scared of attending due to COVID-19, so the least broadcasters can do is make sure they now have some way of watching from indoors.
