Nottingham Forest have opened contract talks with Brennan Johnson with the winger being eyed by the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham.
According to the Evening Standard, the Championship attacker is a target for multiple Premier League clubs, with the Independent reporting that Newcastle are interested in Johnson as well as Arsenal and Tottenham as per Sky Sports News.
The attacker, labelled as a ‘livewire’ via Wales Online, has been one of the stars of the Championship this season, with Johnson bagging nine goals and five assists for Steve Cooper’s side as Forest impress in both the second-tier and in the FA Cup.
With the Athletic reporting that the English-born Wales international could leave Forest for £20m and with his contract expiring in 2023, it makes sense why the Nottingham-based club are eager to renew Johnson’s contract.
Indeed, the forward has developed well under Cooper and has played a starring role for the Championship club this campaign, and whilst Premier League promotion is still in the cards for Forest, another season with his hometown team could do wonders for the 20-year-old.
As well as potentially raise his value, Johnson could be leaping to the Premier League too soon in his career, with this season with Forest his first full campaign in the second-tier.
New Forest contract best thing possible for Johnson’s development

A move to the Premier League is the dream for a player like Johnson, yet with just 32 Championship starts in his entire career, remaining with Forest for one more year and signing a new contract could be the best move for the attacker.
Johnson has the potential to play in the English top-flight, yet the winger could be better off remaining with Forest and Cooper and continuing to improve his game until he is ready for the leap to the Premier League.
