Liverpool now face a battle to complete the signing of Fulham talent Fabio Carvalho after bitter rivals Manchester United joined the race.
That’s according to the Daily Star, who claim that Liverpool’s hopes of finally securing Carvalho are now under real threat.
Liverpool made their move for Carvalho on deadline day in January but ran out of time to sign him and loan him back to Fulham.
Fulham allegedly still think Carvalho will join Liverpool this summer but that isn’t a done deal and Liverpool could yet miss out.
It’s now suggested that United sent scouts to watch Carvalho in action for Fulham against Manchester City earlier this month.
Carvalho scored in that game and United scouts have watched him twice since then as they weigh up a summer deal.
The report adds that sources inside United now believe hijack attempt is coming from the Red Devils, who want to spoil Liverpool’s move.
Carvalho is out of contract this summer, but a compensation fee will still be required as the playmaker is only 19.

Liverpool have already discussed terms with Fulham, and it’s thought that the Reds would let Carvalho go back on loan to the Cottagers next season – if they win promotion.
That looks very likely as things stand, and United will likely have to agree similar terms to avoid any deal going to a tribunal.
Liverpool will surely still be favourites for any deal, but United are lurking and could Carvalho the chance to make a somewhat controversial move to Old Trafford instead.
