Jürgen Klopp has been speaking to the media ahead of the Premier League clash between Liverpool and Norwich today.

Among many topics, the German found time to discuss Mohamed Salah, as the 29-year-old closes in on 150 goals for Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, after scoring against Inter Milan at the San Siro, Salah is now just one goal away from reaching 150 for the Reds.

When told about this, Klopp said: “The numbers speak for themselves, it’s absolutely insane. When you say now 150, I thought it was only recently we spoke about 100. It’s obviously a massive number and hopefully he can do that tomorrow.”

Insane is a good way to describe it, because what Salah has achieved at Anfield certainly isn’t normal – not by any means.

In 232 games for Liverpool, the Egyptian has also registered 56 assists to go with his 149 goals, so he’s already been involved in over 200 goals for the Reds.

For just £34m, Salah has to be considered as one of the greatest signings of all time – his output is utterly absurd, and Liverpool are lucky to have him.

Liverpool nearly missed out on Mohamed Salah

Interestingly, Klopp actually wanted to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt, before Michael Edwards convinced him to buy Salah.

It was German football expert Raphael Honigstein who made the claim on the Totally Football Show podcast, where he revealed that Klopp didn’t really want Salah.

On this occasion, the 54-year-old was happy to step aside and trust the analytics team, who were obsessed with the ex-Chelsea forward.

It’s inconceivable to think about how differently Klopp’s reign at Anfield would’ve gone, had he been firm in his desire to sign Brandt.

Thankfully, he has the best in the business alongside him in Edwards.
