Mikel Arteta has been speaking to the media ahead of the Premier League clash between Arsenal and Brentford tomorrow.

Interestingly, the Spaniard provided an update on the aftermath of Gabriel Martinelli’s bizarre red card in the 1-0 win over Wolves.

What’s the story?

Well – as you’ll know – the Brazilian was dismissed for two yellow cards within seconds of each other against Wolves last time out.

Martinelli was given the first booking for pushing Daniel Podence as he was taking a throw in, before Michael Oliver gave him a second yellow for fouling Chiquinho.

When asked if he’d spoken to the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) about the incident, Arteta said: “Not yet, that’s happening soon, but obviously, we have reported the opinion and the lack of understanding on the decision.”

Evidently, it seems the case is not closed just yet.

Unfortunately, despite the fact Arsenal have reported the decision, Martinelli must still serve his one-game ban.

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta must be furious

In our view, the Gunners and Arteta have every right to be angry.

Many have praised Oliver for his decision, and in truth, you can see why he thought it was the right thing to do.

However – in our view – we feel it was unfair, purely because Martinelli did not know he had one yellow card to his name, let alone two.

The whole point of a yellow card is for it to be used as a warning, and players usually tend to calm down after receiving one, or else they’ll be sent off for a second offence.

Sadly for Martinelli, he was not given that luxury.

Keep an eye on this situation, as we should soon hear the outcome of Arsenal’s meeting with the PGMOL.
