James McFadden slammed Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers on BBC Scotland (17/2, 21:41) after Bodo/Glimt shocked Celtic 3-1 in the Europa Conference League.

The Bhoys lost their first match in 18 games in all competitions on Thursday at home to the Norwegian outfit. Runar Espejord gave the Eliteserien champions an early lead at Parkhead, before strikes from Amahl Pellegrino and Hugo Vetlesen between Daizen Maeda’s late hit.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will now travel to the Artic circle next week having to score at least three to progress. The Hoops had seemed the side most likely to score early on in Glasgow, but Maeda failed to capitalise his second-minute break. Then, Bodo/Glimt started to reply.

Bodo/Glimt gained heaps of confidence from Pellegrino testing Joe Hart and strung a one-touch move to free Espejord soon after. Their attack again toyed with the Hoops to leave Pellegrino with an easy tap in. While there was a hint of fortune when Vetlesen hit home.

Vetlesen restored Kjetil Knutsen’s side’s two-goal advantage within two-minutes of Hatate threatening a comeback. The 21-year-old looked to test Hart from the edge of the box. Yet the Hoops stopper had no chance of saving it after the ball deflected off Callum McGregor.

McFadden slams Celtic duo Hatate, Carter-Vickers for roles in Bodo/Glimt loss

McFadden slammed Celtic duo Hatate and Carter-Vickers for their roles in letting Vetlesen restore Bodo/Glimt’s two-goal Europa Conference League advantage. The former Scotland forward felt both were at fault for allowing the visiting side to break and ultimately score.

“Oh my word. You cannot give away a goal like that,” McFadden said. “Hatate loses it, and then they get in between Celtic’s midfield and defence. Vetlesen gets his shot away and it takes the deflection. Carter-Vickers has to get out to him quicker.”

Hatate contributed to Bodo/Glimt cutting Celtic’s celebrates short by hitting an attempted cross-field pass into Vetlesen on the halfway line. The Norwegian side immediately sensed a chance to break, and McGregor and Carter-Vickers were too slow to close Vetlesen down.
