Jamie Carragher has claimed that Arsenal have ‘more of a chance’ of winning the Champions League than Manchester United, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (16/02/22 at 10:55 pm).

The TV pundit was talking about Man United’s chances against Atletico Madrid next week during the last-16 of the Champions League and how he clearly doesn’t rate them doing anything in this season’s competition.

Previously, the former centre-back was ‘convinced’ that the Spanish side would go through.

But Diego Simeone’s men are going through their own troubles in La Liga, especially after losing to bottom-of-the-table Levante on Wednesday night.

With two former Arsenal players – in Thierry Henry and Alex Scott – sat next to Carragher during yesterday’s Champions League coverage – even though the north London club aren’t in the competition, the ex-Liverpool man couldn’t help but send this message to those at Old Trafford.

“If we are having this discussion with Atletico as well, it’s the same with them,” said Carragher. “I think they lost in La Liga tonight to Levante, who are bottom of the league.

“When that draw first came out, I was convinced Atletico would go through, now I am not so sure, even with Manchester United still being poor in the Premier League.

“I think it’s a real 50-50 game, with both teams really poor in the Premier League

“I tell you what though, Arsenal have more chance than Manchester United.”

This is a competition that Arsenal have craved for a number of years now after missing out on it altogether.

Whilst the Gunners have never lifted the European Cup, like Liverpool or Man United, they have still been a part of it for many, many years.

They have that chance with Mikel Arteta to get back to those heights via the Premier League.

But it’s the likes of Manchester United who stand in their way and it seems the fight to the fourth-placed finish line is going to be some race during these coming months.
