Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Spurs will definitely be signing a new centre-back in the summer transfer window.

It was reported prior to the January window opening that Spurs wanted to bring two new centre-halves to north London, but unfortunately for Antonio Conte, Spurs failed to make any additions in that area.

Understandably, they now want to sign top player in that position in the summer.

What’s been said?

Romano shared what he knows about Spurs’ summer plans.

“Talking about Tottenham, I wanted to say that Antonio conte wants something fresh, he wants something new in the summer and they will go for a new centre-back 100%. So Tottenham will 100% sign a new centre-back, it was already in the plans for January, he wanted a new centre-back, but they were unable to sign a top player in January like Botman or Skriniar, we had many names around in Serie A due to Paratici and Conte. They want to sign an important centre-back in the summer,” Romano said.

Important area

This will arguably be the most important signing Spurs make this summer.

Tottenham’s centre-backs have looked all at sea in recent weeks, and if they continue to leak goals, they’ll struggle to win games.

Antonio Conte’s three-at-the-back system requires quality in defence, and sadly, Spurs don’t quite have that level of personnel available to them at the moment.

Fingers crossed Fabio Paratici can get this signing right in the summer.
