Real Madrid are considering a move to re-sign Sergio Reguilon in the summer, with a £33.5million buyback clause active this summer. But the left-back could look to remain at Tottenham – as 90Min detail his stance.

Reguilon, 25, has been in and out of the Spurs side under Antonio Conte. He has started three of their last five Premier League matches – but was an unused sub against Chelsea and Wolves. It is unclear if Conte rates him.

It might simply be a case of Conte not having anything better. Madrid, meanwhile, are on the lookout for a new, left-sided defender with Ferland Mendy’s form inconsistent and Marcelo out of contract in the summer.

Spurs bought Reguilon in 2020, but Madrid have had a clause in the deal that they could sign him for £33.5million this summer. However, it looks likely Reguilon would reject his old side – according to a 90Min report.

They claim that while Carlo Ancelotti has identified him as first choice – Reguilon does not want to return to the side that threw him out on loan to Sevilla, and then to Spurs. He would rather making things work in London.

Madrid eye Reguilon: Should Tottenham cash in if offer comes in?

Reguilon is perfect for Conte’s 3-4-3 system. Absolutely ideal. The Spain star is brilliant going forward and hard-working, but as a standard left-back, he was often caught out of position under Jose Mourinho.

With Conte’s system, Reguilon has Ben Davies as cover on the left side of the back three. A bit of inconsistent form of late has seen Reguilon rotated, but when he gets back to his best, he will be a key player for Conte and Spurs.

If Madrid table the £33.5million fee, then Spurs have little they can do about it. But Tottenham must do all they can to keep Reguilon at Spurs. While his form might not be ideal right now, it would cost a lot more to improve him.
