Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Chris Sutton has been discussing Emerson Royal and his start to life at Tottenham.
The right-back arrived at Spurs in the summer, and it’s fair to say that he’s not gotten off to the best of starts.
Going forward, Emerson has looked bright at times. However, he is more than suspect defensively.
The Brazilian has continuously been caught out of position, while he’s misjudged so many tackles and interceptions this season.
Sutton says that Emerson looks completely out of place, comparing him to an actor who’s stepped onto the wrong movie set.
What’s been said?
Sutton was reviewing Spurs’ summer recruitment.
“We’re all realising what a difficult job this will be for Conte. He needs to be judged on recruitment, he’s brought in two players now with Bentancur and Kulusevski, the recruitment in the summer, the fact that Bryan Gil has now been sent off to Valencia now hasn’t he? Emerson Royal looks like he’s in the wrong movie, there are a lot of issues at Spurs, and it looks as though this will be a long hard season,” Sutton said.

Shocker
As much as we’d like to defend Emerson Royal here, it’s very hard to.
The Brazilian looks completely out of his depth at Tottenham, and it’s not hard to understand why Spurs were reportedly looking for a new right-back in January.
There must be a decent player in there somewhere. After all, he was once on the books at Barcelona, but so far we’ve been unable to find a single positive from Emerson at Tottenham.
