Glenn Hoddle has told The Analysis Show that Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez is making the same mistakes “time and time again”. The Spurs legend even claims that the Colombian is “lazy” in his defending.
Sanchez, 25, has started 10 of Antonio Conte’s 12 Premier League matches since the Italian arrived at Spurs – with Conte unable to start what is clearly his best defence; Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies.
The ex-Ajax defender has been often criticised during his time at Tottenham. His proneness to making a high-profile mistake has often been the source of frustration for Spurs fans. Now, Hoddle too has been criticial.
The ex-Spurs player and manager analysed Tottenham’s defeat to Wolves on Sunday afternoon – a third successive Premier League loss. Hoddle claimed that Sanchez is “lazy” when it comes to his defending.
“Unfortunately, it is a pattern. I’ve seen it from him, time and time again. I don’t understanding some of his defending at times off the ball. In fact, he looks a little bit lazy in his defending,” Hoddle said.
Hoddle on Sanchez: Time for Conte to drop struggling Tottenham man
Reports claim this week that senior players are pushing Conte to use Joe Rodon – who has been suffering from cracked ribs over the last few weeks. Rodon can play anywhere in the back three.
Sanchez’s confidence is likely to be low and bringing in a player, hungry to impress Conte having only played three times under the Italian previously, will surely boost Spurs. Rodon is a fighter, and they need that on Saturday.
That is, because they come up against Manchester City – the Premier League champions. Pep Guardiola’s side are on fire, beating Sporting Lisbon 5-0 on Tuesday night. Rodon is a better shout than Sanchez right now.
