Micah Richards has lauded ex-Tottenham man and current Newcastle player, Kieran Trippier, for having an ‘outstanding’ career, as he told Sky Sports PL (13/02/22 at 1:35 pm).
The former right-back played alongside Trippier during their days at Manchester City, before that path led him to Burnley, Spurs, Atletico Madrid and now Newcastle.
Trippier played in a Spurs side that reached the Champions League final, but despite producing such great performances under Mauricio Pochettino, that all-important trophy alluded them.
But Trippier, who joined the Spanish giants for £20 million from north London (BBC Sport), managed to get a slice of the trophy cake when he helped Diego Simeone’s men win the La Liga title last season.
Now, the 31-year-old faces an entirely different task in Newcastle colours, as Richards praised his ex-teammate for going ‘the long way round’.
“With Trippier, I am so happy for him because he was at Manchester City as well as a right-back,” said Richards. “I was in front of him. Zabaleta was in front of him.
“And he has gone the long way round. He went to Burnley. Then to Spurs. Goes to Atletico Madrid and wins the league. Scores in the World Cup.
“His career has been outstanding.”

Trippier left Spurs in 2019, and in truth, they still haven’t replaced the England international on that right flank.
Whilst the set-piece specialist is coming towards the end of his career, those in Newcastle are still watching him produce special moments.
He may well be out injured with a foot injury now, but he has scored back-to-back free-kicks for the Magpies, who have now won three games on the bounce.
It’s not just his quality out on the pitch that will be missed, but his experience and presence in and around the training ground – that’s Newcastle, yet it’s something that’s also very much-needed at Spurs too.
