Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Alessio Romagnoli could be over as the AC Milan captain seemingly nears a move to Lazio.
That’s according to a report from Italian transfer insider Alfredo Pedulla, who claims that Romagnoli is edging towards joining Lazio.
It’s claimed that contact has been initiated and Lazio are prepared to pay Romagnoli around €3million-a-year (£48,000-a-week).
Despite coming through the ranks at Roma, Romagnoli actually grew up supporting Lazio and wants to make a dream move.
Lazio haven’t closed the deal just yet, but it looks like Romagnoli is heading to join Maurizio Sarri’s men on a free transfer this summer.
Romagnoli is out of contract at the end of the season and set to leave Milan despite 14 Serie A starts this season.
That seemingly means that Tottenham will miss out on a potential bargain amid claims Fabio Paratici was looking to sign Romagnoli.
90Min claimed in December that Tottenham were preparing a pre-contract agreement for Romagnoli.
Antonio Conte seems to want another left-sided centre back, with Ben Davies hardly the long-term solution there.
Romagnoli is left-footed and could have been seen as a cheap solution to Conte’s demands, with Paratici no doubt familiar with Romagnoli from Serie A.

A move to the Premier League will have been appealing, but seemingly not better than the emotional pull of playing for Lazio.
That likely leaves Tottenham going back to the drawing board in their search for a new left-sided centre back this summer.
The Telegraph claim that Lille’s Sven Botman, Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni and RB Leipzig ace Josko Gvardiol are also on Tottenham’s radar.
With Romagnoli set for Lazio, Paratici may need to get to work on targeting those players very, very quickly.
