Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Marcelo Bielsa has given an update on the fitness of Junior Firpo.

The Spanish left-back has missed each of Leeds’ last two games after picking up an injury against West Ham last month, and sadly, he won’t be playing against Everton either.

Indeed, while Bielsa says that Firpo is now healthy, he’s not anticipating a return to action until next week.

What’s Bielsa said?

The manager responded when asked about Firpo’s status.

“He is healthy, but we’re not going to anticipate his return. We anticipate his return will be next week,” Bielsa said.

The Argentine later reaffirmed the fact that Firpo won’t play against Everton stating that he ‘won’t be considered’

Patience

While Leeds would probably want Firpo back in the team as soon as possible, they’ll benefit from being patient with the player’s fitness here.

Marcelo Bielsa’s style is an incredibly intense style of play, and while Firpo could probably get away with an early return under any other manager, if you’re not fully fit, you’ll struggle to cope in Bielsa’s team.

Luckily for Leeds, Stuart Dallas is ready and waiting to step in at left-back, and the Northern Irishman, as ever, is likely to do a brilliant job at full-back or wherever he is deployed.

Fingers crossed nothing happens between now and next week and Firpo is able to return to the team against Manchester United.
