Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are ready to pay the transfer fee needed to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona in the summer of 2022, according to Sport.

Sport have reported that Liverpool and Bayern Munich are interested in Netherlands international midfielder De Jong, described as “a fantastic player” by his compatriot and former Anfield star Dirk Kurt in The Daily Mail in December 2021.

The report in the Spanish publication has claimed that the 24-year-old midfielder wants to stay at Barcelona, but he is not comfortable in the fixed-inside position that head coach Xavi has been using him.

Frenkie de Jong would make Liverpool better

In our view, De Jong would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool and would make Klopp’s team better.

Liverpool do have some wonderful attacking players, and Klopp is well stocked in midfield as well.

Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago are brilliant midfielders, and there is also a certain Curtis Jones who could develop into a superb footballer in the coming years.

However, a player of De Jong would make Liverpool better and would be another good option for Klopp.

Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have not really been a huge success at Liverpool, while James Milner is 36 now.

De Jong earns £164,000 as salary at Barcelona (SalarySport), which is certainly something that Liverpool can afford.
