90Min claim Leeds United are expecting to keep Marcelo Bielsa as manager for the 2022-23 campaign, despite reports claiming the Whites have drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements for the iconic Argentine boss.
Bielsa, 66, is out of contract in the summer. The Argentine is renowned for working on a 12-month rolling deal, ever since he joined the club in 2018. In the past two seasons, an announcement has only been made in the summer.
Again, Leeds find themselves in a position where there is talk over the future of their manager. The Telegraph claimed on Thursday that Leeds are considering Ernesto Valverde, Jesse Marsch and Carlos Corberan.
The latest report, though, claims Leeds are confident Bielsa will remain and believe they are putting everything in place to convince Bielsa to stay. Another name has been added to the list of potential replacements, though.
Indeed, that name is in the form of 37-year-old Ruben Amorim – who is currently impressing as manager of Sporting Lisbon. They sit second behind Porto, with the two sides doing battle on Friday evening.
Leeds expect Bielsa stay: Music to the ears of Elland Road fans
Bielsa will eventually go, but the report claiming that he will remain for a fifth season will delight fans. The Whites, although only a loss or two away from a relegation scrap, do look as though they will remain safe this term.
So, it looks as if Bielsa will remain and that Leeds are simply planning in case he has a change of heart. It is egg on the face of Tim Sherwood, who continues to repeatedly claim that this will be Bielsa’s last season.
