Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has raved about Leicester City forward Patson Daka on BT Sport after playing against him at Anfield on Thursday evening.
Van Dijk has said that he found Leicester forward Data very quick, as Liverpool won the Premier League game against the Foxes 2-0.
Interestingly, Daka was linked with a move to Liverpool back in the summer of 2021.
Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on the Here We Go Podcast in September 2021 that Liverpool had the chance to sign the 23-year-old Zambia international forward last summer from RB Salzburg.
Romano said: “Yes, he had chances to join many Premier League clubs and this summer Liverpool had a strategy this summer, sell players and eventually sign new players.
“If they sold Shaqiri or Origi in the first days of June, they had the chance to sign Patson Daka because they were interested in Patson Daka, but then it collapsed because of timings on Shaqiri, who was eventually sold to Lyon in August.”
Van Dijk said on BT Sport: “We want to keep a high line because we know we can win the ball up high.
“It’s the risk you have to take. Luckily, they trust us in the back but it’s sometimes not easy, you’ve to be brave.
“Today, I played against Patson Daka, who is crazy quick in my opinion, so you have to be ready.”

Patson Daka doing well after failed Liverpool transfer
In our view, Daka is doing well at Leicester and does not seem to have been too affected by his failed transfer to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has made five starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Foxes so far this season.
The youngster has scored four goals and given three assists in those games.
Daka has also scored five goals in five Europa League starts for Brendan Rodgers’s side this season.
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool return for Daka in the coming years.
