The latest episode of South Park has left viewers shocked after they learnt that they have been calling an important character by the wrong name all along.

Yes, that’s right, Token’s name is actually Tolkien Black, not Token Black, and he is named after the famous author. Here is everything we know…

Revelation over character’s name is revealed

On yesterday’s episode of South Park, fans got to learn Token’s real name as the Black family went for dinner at Tegridy Farms after being invited by Stan.

The conversation began when Randy asked Token’s parents the meaning behind their son’s name. He said: “Just out of curiosity, why did you guys name him that?”

To which they replied: “What do you mean?”

Randy then said: “Well, I mean, it’s just kind of an odd name isn’t it? Like some people might think that you guys naming your son that isn’t very cool?”

Token’s father asked: “People have a problem with Tolkien’s name?`”

Randy finally reveals the intention of his questioning, stating: “Well I mean other people think it’s a little, I mean come on, I mean I’m not calling you guys racist, but why did you name your son that?”

It is then revealed that Token’s name is actually Tolkien after the author J.R.R Tolkien, who wrote Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Tolkien’s father explained: “I wanted to name our son after my favourite author, but she didn’t want to name our son J.R.R so we just named him Tolkien.”

Who is Tolkien in South Park?

Tolkien is a regular member of Craig’s gang and is the only black child in South Park. His parents are said to be the wealthiest in South Park, with his father working as a lawyer and his mother as a chemist.

The character has been around since the very first episode of South Park, but Tolkien made his first big breakout in the season four episode “Cartman’s Silly Hate Crime.”

Tolkien is one of the few main male characters not voiced by Trey Parker or Matt Stone, and instead is voiced by the producer and lead storyboard artist Adrien Beard.
