Birmingham Live claim that Aston Villa are expecting Premier League clubs to bid for Douglas Luiz in the summer – including Arsenal. The Midlands outfit are unsure whether to offer a new deal, or cash in on the Brazilian.
Luiz, 23, has emerged as one of the best central midfielders outside the Premier League’s top six since he swapped Manchester City for Villa. Joining Steven Gerrard’s side in 2019, he has clocked up 95 appearances.
That form has seen Villa’s no.6 even earn caps for Brazil. Birmingham Live claim that in January, Villa rejected three offers in the region of £30million for Luiz. His contract is due to expire in June 2023, prompting interest.
The report states that Villa are unsure whether to cash in on Luiz in the summer, and get as much money as they can for him – or offer him a new contract. By then, the interest might have even turned Luiz’s head.
Villa decision on Luiz: Arsenal desperately need Brazilian star
Arsenal lack options in midfield. Ainsley Maitland-Niles left for Roma, Mo Elneny is out of contract. Reports claim Roma could return for Granit Xhaka. Thomas Partey and Albert Lokonga are the club’s other options.
If Arsenal need to spend £30million to get Luiz in the summer, it is a no-brainer. Luiz would fit well at Arsenal, given they have the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel, among other Brazilian players. A must.
