TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy has Wednesday night’s Sports Bar that Arsenal should consider signing Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse. The England star laid on two assists as Southampton beat Tottenham.

Ward-Prowse, 27, has been in stunning form of late for Southampton – having a hand in eight goals in the last seven Premier League matches. He has netted four goals, and laid on four assists – two came against Spurs.

Already, the Southampton no.8 is just three appearances shy of clocking up a huge 350 in all competitions for the Saints. But realistically, Ward-Prowse will surely be looking to leave the club sooner rather than later.

Arsenal desperately need midfielders – with Ainsley Maitland-Niles leaving on loan, Mo Elneny’s contract out of contract in the summer and Granit Xhaka might move to Roma. Cundy said Arsenal should sign Ward-Prowse.

“Why haven’t Arsenal gone in and made a bid? I totally agree with you, Ward-Prowse would not look out of place [in a top six side],” Cundy told TalkSPORT, when discussing Southampton’s comeback win.

Cundy on Ward-Prowse: Massive improvement in Arsenal midfield

The Gunners lack a midfielder that can score goals from the middle of the park. Thomas Partey has been trying to shoot more from distance – but the likes of Partey, Xhaka, Elneny and Albert Sambi Lokonga is not enough.

Ward-Prowse would take Arsenal forward and give them a different option. A danger from set-pieces, an energetic box-to-box option that could guarantee – with European football – 15 goal involvements a season.

That could be the difference between top six and top four for the Gunners, who are falling behind in the race for fourth. Transfer Markt claim he is represented by the same agency that look after Kieran Tierney.
