Alan Shearer has claimed that Tottenham target, Brennan Johnson, has ‘incredible pace’ to his game, as he told Match of the Day.

Over the weekend, Johnson helped his Nottingham Forest side cause yet another FA Cup upset as they thrashed Leicester City 4-1 at the City Ground.

The 20-year-old got on the scoresheet as Forest ran riot against their Midlands rivals, with suggestions that Tottenham Sporting Director, Fabio Paratici, was watching the young attacker in action.

Nottingham-born Johnson has been a shining light for his boyhood club this season, despite the former European champions starting off the season bottom of the Championship table.

Ever since Steve Cooper replaced Chris Hughton, there has been a change in mood, culture, style and improvement from young stars, such as Johnson.

And former Premier League striker, Shearer, thinks that it won’t be too long before the versatile attacker is donning the Premier League stage.

“Brennan Johnson, if Forest aren’t playing in the Premier League next season, I think this guy will be,” said Shearer.

“There was interest for him in January and they turned down big money for him in the hope that he can get them promoted.

“He has a really good understanding down the right-hand side with Djed Spence. He has incredible pace to get in behind. When he gets in that position, not many are going to catch him.

“He is a very good player. Very talented. Only 20-years-old – he has a great future ahead of him.”

Whilst Forest are sitting outside of the Championship’s top-six, they still have a serious chance of earning promotion to the Premier League.

They are surging up that table and waiting for one of the teams in the play-off places to drop out.

It wasn’t so long ago that Forest narrowly missed out on a play-off spot on the final day of the campaign, this time they will be hoping it will be a different story.
