Liverpool have been linked with Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka – and Reds reporter Neil Jones has backed up those claims in recent days.

The Reds have just splashed out on signing one winger with Luis Diaz arriving in a big-money move from Porto.

There could be more to come though given the question marks over both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah’s futures at Anfield.

Both Mane and Salah are out of contract in 2023 and there currently appears to be little movement on new ideas.

Diaz can replace Mane down the left in terms of the profile of cutting inside onto his right foot, and Saka may be seen as a player who cut in from the left like Salah.

Saka, 20, has been sensational ever since breaking into the Arsenal team under Unai Emery.

Now a regular with England on the international stage, Saka has racked up six goals and four assists in 21 league games for Arsenal this season.

Saka is contracted to Arsenal in June 2024, meaning the Gunners aren’t under any immediate pressure to sell their homegrown winger.

Arsenal will though need to show Saka that he can achieve everything he wants with the Gunners rather than move on elsewhere.

ESPN reported just days ago that Liverpool are monitoring Saka and could make a move if Arsenal miss out on the top four this season.

Now, Goal’s Liverpool correspondent Neil Jones has told The Redmen TV that Liverpool do indeed fancy Saka.

Jones added that Saka’s situation could be similar to Harry Kane or Raheem Sterling in recent years, with Liverpool seemingly lurking for Saka if Arsenal can’t return to the Champions League.

“Liverpool like him. I think that goes back to when he was in the youth team at Arsenal,” said Jones. “He’s a brilliant player. That first leg he played at Anfield was some performance. He really impressed a lot of people, a lot of Liverpool fans, I’m sure, that night. If he’s out of contract at Arsenal then, of course, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea, every club in Europe will be looking at it.”

“They [Arsenal] really do need to get into the Champions League this summer. If they did, they would make a big push to bring in a few players that could take them to the next level. If they don’t do that, it suddenly becomes a bit of a Harry Kane situation – ‘he’s one of our own’, but how long is he going to sit and scratch around the Europa Conference League? Not dissimilar to Raheem Sterling at Liverpool,” he added.
