Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will make a move for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak in the summer of 2022, according to The Athletic.
The Athletic journalist James McNicholas has claimed that Arsenal “stopped short” of paying the release clause in Isak’s contract at Spanish club Sociedad.
Arsenal felt that they would have overpaid for the 22-year-old striker had they paid his full release clause.
McNicholas has reported that the Gunners will try again for Isak in the summer of 2022, but the North London club will hope to negotiate a price rather than pay the full release clause.
The Daily Star have reported that Isak’s release clause is £77 million.

Could Alexander Isak to Arsenal happen?
In our view, Arsenal could be able to sign Isak from Sociedad in the summer of 2022.
Now, of course, Sociedad could hold out for the Sweden international’s full release clause, but we do not think that any club will pay £77 million for a 22-year-old who is not scoring a ton of goals.
Yes, Isak scored 17 goals in La Liga last season, but he has scored only four in 15 league starts so far this campaign.
Moreover, Sociedad will get enough time in the summer of 2022 to find a suitable replacement for Isak, who could be tempted to move to Arsenal, especially if the North London club end up in the Premier League top four.
