According to The Telegraph, Everton are interested in hiring Steve Hitchen as their Director of Football, after he quit his job at Tottenham.

What’s the story?

Well, Hitchen had become frustrated following the arrival of Fabio Paratici, who forced the Everton target into a reduced role.

The Daily Mail believe the 45-year-old is now keen to take a Director of Football role elsewhere, and there’s a vacancy at Everton.

Despite the arrival of Frank Lampard, Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright still need to replace Marcel Brands, who left his role as Director of Football in December.

The signings of Dele Alli, Donny van de Beek and Anwar El Ghazi were completed without a Sporting Director at the helm.

However, continuing to operate without one would potentially leave Everton lost in the market, with little cohesion between Lampard and the Board.

Steve Hitchen would be great for Everton

In our view, Hitchen would be a fine appointment by the Toffees.

After all, we’re talking about a man who is said to have negotiated deals for Bruno Fernandes, Paulo Dybala, Jack Grealish and James Ward-Prowse, only for Spurs to pull out due to financial reasons (The Telegraph).

One deal Hitchen did have a hand in – which proved to be successful – was the capture of Luka Modric back in 2008 (Daily Mail).

As you may know, the Croatian went on to become a Ballon d’Or winner after leading his country to the 2018 World Cup final.

One thing Everton must be wary of, however, is Newcastle.

The Magpies are also without a Director of Football, and are said to be admirers of Hitchen as well, according to The Telegraph.

With a bottomless pit of money to spend, you can understand why he may be more interested in a move to Tyneside.

Nevertheless, keep your eye on Hitchen’s situation, as nobody knows where he will end up next.
