Kenny Miller has told BBC Sport’s Live coverage of Celtic’s emphatic 3-0 win over Rangers, that Borna Barisic is “sloppy” when in possession. The Croatian ace was poor on Wednesday night, and Celtic took advantage.
With Rangers still leading the Scottish Premiership table by two points, Wednesday night’s Old Firm clash was a crucial one. But Ange Postecoglou’s side were miles ahead of their Glasgow rivals, cruising to a superb 3-0 win.
Rangers continuously made mistakes at the back, which comes after two individual errors cost them the win against Ross County on Sunday. Barisic was at fault for the third goal at Parkhead, Liel Abada scoring from a cross.
Rangers icon Miller discussed Barisic’s performance on Wednesday night, hammering the 29-year-old who Steven Gerrard bought for £2million (Mail). Miller took aim Barisic, claiming he had no idea where Abada was.
“Let me tell you: Borna Barisic has had such a bad half,” he told BBC Sport. “On the ball, he’s sloppy. He’s got absolutely no idea where Liel Abada is. He’s got to be aware. That is absolutely schoolboy defending.”
Miller on Barisic: Rangers star needs to be dropped, Bassey to start?
Calvin Bassey has been superb for Rangers at centre-back, apart from the last couple of matches as Rangers go through a lull under new manager Gio van Bronckhorst. When first signed, Bassey was used as a left-back.
Barisic, like a number of other senior Rangers stars, could do with a few games on the sidelines to recollect his composure. His form has been woeful of late. But there is little cover behind the Croatian defender.
Bassey is being used at centre-back, but with Leon Balogun and Filip Helander returning to fitness, perhaps the Nigeria defender could be pushed onto the left side in order to give Barisic a break.
