Aaron Ramsey’s loan move to Rangers from Juventus is being touted as the biggest move of deadline day. It comes moments before Wednesday’s big clash against Celtic – and The Athletic report whether he will be involved.
Ramsey, 31, has joined Rangers on loan until the end of the season with numerous reports suggesting that a permanent clause has been included in the deal. Juventus are likely to be paying a substantial portion of his wages.
It is a huge move for Rangers, and Scottish football as a whole. He was expected to return to the Premier League with Everton, Leeds, Newcastle, Palace, Burnley, Wolves and plenty more linked throughout January.
But instead, Ramsay has moved to Ibrox on loan until the summer. The Athletic report whether he will be involved against Celtic on Wednesday night at Parkhead – but it is bad news for Gers fans.
The Athletic’s Jordan Campbell reports: “Rangers’ next fixture is against Celtic on Wedensday, but The Athletic understands that participating in the Old Firm derby may come too soon for him.”
Ramsey could miss Celtic clash: But Rangers title chances boosted
When producing his best form, Ramsey is one of the best midfielders in European football. Work rate, tenacity, passing, tackling, goals, assists, he genuinely does have it all. He can play in numerous roles, too.
In Gio van Bronckhorst’s 4-2-3-1, he can play in the two behind the attacking three – either as the anchoring four, or the box-to-box eight. Ramsey is probably best, though, as the middle of the three, a 10.
While the report states it is unlikely he will be involved against Celtic given he has played just 112 minutes this season – he could easily be named on the bench and given a cameo role against the Hoops. Time will tell.
