James McAtee turned down a move to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Ibrox club Rangers to stay at Manchester City, according to The Telegraph (Transfer Live Blog, 6:52pm, January 31, 2022).
The Telegraph have reported that Rangers were among the clubs who made enquiries about signing McAtee on loan from defending Premier League champions City in the January transfer window.
Swansea City, Bournemouth, Queens Park Rangers and Huddersfield Town also enquired about the 19-year-old midfielder.
However, the English teenager decided to turn down Rangers and the other interested clubs and stay at City.
Although McAtee reportedly gave ‘serious consideration’ to a loan move, in the end the England Under-20 international and City decided that it would be best for him to stay at the club and continue to be part of Pep Guardiola’s first team.

James McAtee no big miss for Rangers
In our view, McAtee not joining Rangers is not a big miss for the Gers.
McAtee is a very good player who could become the next Phil Foden, but he is only 19 and is still developing as a footballer.
Rangers signed a very established midfielder in Aaron Ramsey on January transfer deadline day.
The Wales international midfielder has joined on loan from Juventus until the end of the season, and he is a better player to have than McAtee.
