Tottenham Hotspur were willing to accept Atletico Madrid’s terms for a deadline day deal for striker Alvaro Morata, but no deal was done.

That’s according to The Times, who claim that Tottenham would have been willing to do a deal with Atletico on their terms.

However, Morata won’t be joining Tottenham tonight, with The Times claiming that the deal has fallen through for unknown reasons.

The report also claims that Arsenal have been unable to sign Morata after holding talks over a deal for the Spaniard.

It’s stated that Morata was interested in joining Arsenal on an 18-month loan deal, with Atletico demanding a mandatory purchase clause.

That seemingly wasn’t to Arsenal’s liking, and Morata will now see out the season on loan at Juventus.

Morata, 29, is well-known to Premier League fans having joined Chelsea in 2017, but he only spent 18 months as a Chelsea player.

With just 24 goals in 72 games for Chelsea, Morata was something of a disappointment for the Blues and headed back to Spain with Atletico.

22 goals in 61 games wasn’t a bad return there, and he rejoined former club Juventus in 2020 having first signed for them in 2014.

Morata hit 20 goals in all competitions last season but has regressed a little this term, finding the net just eight times.

Fabio Paratici was at Juventus when Morata first signed in 2014, and seemingly wanted to lure him to Tottenham.

That would have likely been as backup to Harry Kane, which Morata may not have loved – especially if Arsenal were offering a starting role.

Branded ‘amazing’ by Luis Enrique, Morata divides opinion and has never really seemed like a natural goalscorer.

Morata may be back on the radars of both North London clubs come the summer, but they will now have to do without a striking addition for the rest of the season.
