Barcelona are close to signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, according to David Ornstein in The Athletic.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported this afternoon that Barcelona are close to reaching an agreement with Arsenal over bringing Aubameyang to Camp Nou on loan for the rest of the season.

“Progress has been made in talks between all three parties and although the deal is not yet done, it has advanced significantly over the weekend,” adds Ornstein in The Athletic.

There is one issue, though.

Arsenal and Barcelona have yet to decide how much they each would contribute to Aubameyang’s £350,000-a-week salary.

Barcelona head coach Xavi has identified Aubameyang as the primary target as his number 9.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Barcelona to Arsenal makes sense

In our view, Aubameyang leaving Arsenal for Barcelona on loan makes sense for all three clubs.

Arsenal will get rid of a player they reportedly do not want to keep, and the striker will also get to play regularly for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Barcelona will get a striker who can help them finish in the La Liga top four.

In our opinion, a straight loan deal makes sense for all three parties concerned.

It will be interesting to see if Arsenal are able to sign a striker if Aubameyang leaves for Barcelona before the January transfer window closes on Monday night.
